The café was one of those places that screamed counterculture chic, with reclaimed wood tables, a "pay-what-you-can" donation jar at the counter, and a wall mural of Ruth Bader Ginsburg wielding a flaming sword. It was the kind of spot that made patrons feel like spending $7 on an oat milk latte was an act of rebellion against capitalism.
